I had finally thought I’d be able to do the laundry tomorrow, but it seems it will rain again.
Well, it can’t be helped. I’ll get up a little early, hang the laundry outside for as long as I can, and then bring it in to dry indoors. That’s all there is to it.

I have no intention of resisting the weather. You simply live with it.

When we start thinking of something as an opponent or an enemy—as something we can somehow control—that is when we begin to struggle and resist. But really, it is only something to live in relationship with.

There are many ways of thinking. Perhaps in Aikido, there are as many perspectives as there are people who practice it.

But when we practice together, there is something warm and deeply interesting about trying to understand another person, and being understood in return.

Height, weight, habits, injuries, background, age—there are all kinds of differences, so things rarely unfold according to an ideal. But learning to understand one another through those differences—that too is Aikido.

And that is what makes it so fascinating.
