Lately, I have become more aware of my body.

As I enter middle age, my physique is naturally beginning to change. Being a nurse means working night shifts, and at the same time I am in a position where I teach Aikido. I still have a strong desire to learn and grow, while a sense of duty and responsibility continues to push me forward. Perhaps I have been living right on the edge of my limits for quite some time.

That said, the reason for my weight gain is quite obvious: I simply eat too much. The fundamental weakness I have carried for years has not disappeared. I want to live with more moderation, yet I often find it difficult.

Still, Aikido has a way of bringing me back to myself.

Without overthinking, I simply go to practice. When I step onto the tatami, even the version of myself that has gained weight from overeating returns to where it belongs.

It is not that I have overcome my weaknesses.

But I have found an axis.

Perhaps human beings do not conquer their weaknesses. Perhaps we learn to live alongside them.

I no longer feel the need to win against myself. In fact, the desire to win may be what traps us most deeply.

An axis does not have to be perfect.

Perhaps this is enough.

Today we had a visitor observing practice, so I chose techniques that everyone could participate in together.

The idea of breaking movements down into smaller parts instead of making them more complicated is something I learned from my teacher. It allows people to understand the principles step by step.

I do not know whether our visitor will decide to join the dojo.

But that is perfectly fine.

Aikido can hold many different goals for many different people. Each person walks their own path and seeks their own meaning.

To honor that diversity, I want to continue creating practice where as many people as possible can participate, learn, and experience Aikido together.
