Today was Valentine’s Day. A few days ago, it was my birthday. Every day seems to be designated as something, and yet nothing in particular happens; the days pass without a ripple. I have grown used to that.

To truly forget something is a strange sensation. Even when I briefly recall it, I cannot quite grasp it, and it slips away again almost immediately. Perhaps it is simple forgetfulness. Or perhaps it is because the way I see life is constantly changing. Compared to when I was young, the passage of time feels undeniably faster. And yet, at the same time, each individual day appears to unfold more slowly. It is like watching a fast-moving slow motion.

Playful Practice

  1. Warm-up exercises
  2. Bear walk, spider walk
  3. Knee walking
  4. Becoming familiar with the staff
  5. Gyaku-hanmi katate-dori sumi-otoshi (with staff guidance)

Main Practice

  1. Aiki exercises
  2. Footwork
  3. Ukemi (breakfalls)
  4. Ai-hanmi katate-dori kokyu-nage
  5. Ai-hanmi katate-dori irimi-nage
  6. Kata-dori men-uchi loop
  7. Kata-dori men-uchi ikkyo (omote)
  8. Kata-dori men-uchi ikkyo kokyu-nage
  9. Kata-dori men-uchi kote-gaeshi (ura)
  10. Shomen-uchi yonkyo (ura)

Practice every day. I remind myself of this again.

I think of the shihan and senior practitioners I once admired. Even someone like me, lacking natural athletic ability, was moved to try Aikido. So why not continue practicing as much as I can and move closer to that ideal? It is a path I began because I wanted to attempt techniques that were both gentle and severe. I will simply keep walking it.
